Yeah, go on then…” Yet, after State of Mind the album becomes somewhat boring. A further failure of the album's undying commitment to mediocrity, is its lack of variation; you get the same Bolt Thrower-meets-groove metal riffing and the odd "Autopsy played by Prong" bit of dissonance popping up now and again. 11 sierpnia 1991 roku nakładem oficyny Foundation 2000 do sprzedaży trafił debiutancki album długogrający Gorefest pt. Produced by Gorefest. Gone were guitarist Alex van Schaik and drummer Marc Hoogendoorn, replacing them with Boudewijn Bonebakker and Ed Warby, respectively - two members who would last until the band's breakup. It's not as grotesque or violent as it's predecessor, but it get the job done in it's own way and has it's own approach, and helped the band expand their sound even further on subsequent releases. One thing about this album is that it's very "headbangable", if you like to do such things. And the most important thing: No fillers! The performance and execution are flawless. wikipedia pisze:Holenderski zespół muzyczny wykonujący death metal.Powstał w 1989 roku w Goes z inicjatywy wokalisty i basisty Jana Chrisa de Koeijera, gitarzystów Franka Harthoorna i Alexa van Schaika oraz perkusisty Marc'a Hoogendoorna. I can’t help but screaming ‘Rat, Filth,’ out loud along with Jan Chris every time I hear this tune. Songs like the epic “Babylon’s Whores” show storming blastbeats and rapid riffs at maximum velocity for just the right amount of time before a nifty dose of crushing doom passages filled with Jan-Chris De Koeijer’s earth-shattering vocals penetrate the sound barrier. Meist gelingt dies jedoch nur bedingt. Apart from the trademark lotsa sludgy goodness interspersed with faaaarghst death metal passages and melodic leads there are some pockets of, well, experimentation? After their Mindloss album half the line up changed. Erase is a death 'n' roll music album recording by GOREFEST released in 1994 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette. Oddly enough, the album's hit, 'Get A Life', criticises the conformist attitude so common in society (which meant that herring sandwiches were forcibly fed up until 1997 in Holland) and yet Gorefest reflect every trend in death metal; their debut was a pastiche of Autopsy when that was king, the follow-up chats up the 90's metal zeitgeist and then the band followed Entombed's lead by embracing death 'n' roll on later albums such as Soul Survivor (at this point, I realise that I've never heard 1994's Erase, am I missing much?). This is death metal the way it was meant to be: Fast, heavy and brilliant. It still has the nastiness and filth that early Gorefest is known for, but the piece is more polished this time around, making for an album that loses a bit of the horror of 'Mindloss' but makes up for it in more varied songs. A popular death metal act, Gorefest made a major impact in the early 90s death metal scene with their first two albums Mindloss and False. Opening track ‘Revolt’ is an up tempo death metal assault with catchy chorus and an ingenious break in the middle. The band reformed in 2004 and released two full-lengths before splitting up again on June 15th, 2009. Gorefest split up in 1995 but reunited again in 2005, signing with Nuclear Blast. GOREFEST (NL) mit “Mindloss” vs. ANTROPOMORPHIA (NL) mit “Sermon Ov Wrath”. Gorefest used to be a band which reduced me to a squeeling fanboy. And it has a really powerful rumble to it underneath the guitars. Never an original band, here Gorefest hop on the pummelling, groovy Bolt Thrower-esque style of death metal and, unlike that wonderful band, the riffs here tend to have a bouncy quality that lacks grandiosity and morbidity. Everything found within this CD represents the hardy traditions of just kicking ass without the fear of proper exploration; it’s truly a great listen. EXTREM. The death ‘n’ roll sound has in practice been extinguished and replaced with a modernised observation of old death metal with a more European tint and a touch of melody in the ensemble. I could muster a similarly scathing comment about most songs, which just goes to show the album wasn’t exactly what I had been expecting the re-formed Gorefest to be capable of ( not that I really had been expecting that much; just a figure of speech, see? in the liner notes. An excellent composition with great dynamics, changes of key, pace and catchiness. The drums are perfect, the guitars/bass have a great beefy tone and the vocals sound like taken straight from the "Mindloss" era. J-C even whips out some Napalm Death-style high shrieks on the chorus of "Get-A-Life". The intro is simply mind blowing. The drumming in the introduction is thunderous, the guitars are catchy and the vocals are suitably coarse. and it has "early/mid 90's death metal with a modern twist" written all over it. It is a good representation of what the listener will be listening to for the next 45 minutes. But, after listening to the album straight through a few times it turns bland. ‘Reality When You Die’ is yet another highlight. This time the speed is more prominent and combined with the extreme doomy parts, experimental Thin Lizzy influences and industrial tendencies it results in one of their most varied and therefore extremely enjoyable, suprising and refreshing album. And yet, despite all this, I can't really score this any lower - it's drab and a drag to sit through and, yet, it's not audaciously bad. Weirdly, if anything they seem more akin to the likes of Prong or Machine Head riffs than any of their peers (hell, even then, the riffs aren't fun - the album's sole great riff is hidden away in the fast break of 'Infamous Existence', some seven songs into the album). Like the debut, I see this also as an essential album for any fan of old school death metal. But of course, what's truly important about this release is the music. 50+ videos Play all Mix - Gorefest - Confessions Of A Serial Killer - Dynamo 1993 YouTube "Dynamo Open Air" - Eindhoven 29.-30.05.1993 (TV) Festival Report Headbangers Ball - … A music video was made for the song "Get-a-Life". Gorefest split up in 1995 but reunited again in 2005, signing with Nuclear Blast. Best songs: ‘The Glorious Dead’, ‘Reality When You Die’, ‘Get-a-Life’ and ‘Second Face’. Some solos are kinda out of place, but that is a minor detail (yes, I am picky when it comes down to the "solo" department). But then again, a little does suffice. ‘A Grim Charade’ starts as a slower paced song and almost has a dull verse but this is saved by a nice guitar lead. Oldschool DM chugging and tremolo riffs still take up the majority of the guitars on 'False', but now new, hypermelodic yet still brutal sections will appear from time to time, quite similar to what one might find on Dismember's 'Death Metal'. "Rise to Ruin" switches from mid-pace pounders to full speed ahead songs. It’s just not my style to do a track-by-track, so I think this will have to do for now. Recorded in March, 2007 at Excess Studios in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Their leads are for the most part haunting and memorable (album opener "The Glorious Dead" is one fine example), but they can tear out Slayer-like atonal screeches and howls with the best of them. Gorefest may not have been major mould-breakers at any point in their career, but this is the second occasion when they have used all the right ingredients in perfect proportions to achieve top-notch output. Like 'Mindloss', I would say that 'False' is certainly a somewhat underappreciated gem in the oldschool death metal scene which is deserving of more attention. Of course, these lyrics aren't exactly the most poignant or well-written socially-charged diatribes, Death were doing this kind of thing much better a couple years earlier on Spiritual Healing. All-in-all, False feels like a much more serious entry than it's predecessor, Gorefest legitimately had something to say here, so did they say it well? It gives you the feeling of having the band play a private show in your house, or you being in their rehearsal room. Just check out the intro. Gorefest. 2009-ben feloszlottak. I’m back in the fanboy mode. The choruses soon become lacking. Mindloss. Mixed and mastered at Antfarm Studio in Aarhus, Denmark, April 2007. Okay, I’m simply gonna make a simple statement here. 29 in Waalwijk, Holland, Netherlands. Then the riff kicks in and then the lead arpeggioed fast as hell in that unmistakeably GOREFEST way. What exactly is so good about the latest release? Als vor ca. The specialty of “Rise to Ruin” lies within the record’s evolutionary concept and Gorefest’s destructive perseverance as an old-school death metal squad. It starts slow once again before plunging into blast speed death metal excellence. Yeah, embarassing – to put it mildly. The drum sound is slightly "plinky"--triggered, maybe?--but otherwise you can really hear Ed Warby's furious pounding in perfect clarity. I even enjoyed “Erase”, which alienated much of the band’s death metal fanbase, and it was only the death’n’roll excesses of further releases which managed to finally put me off them for the next decade or so. There is plenty of attention to details and though I would never call the band’s songwriting baroque there are lots of little hooks that dig into your subconscious. Im Falle des niederländischen Death Metal-Flaggschiffes GOREFEST war im Vorfeld bestimmt nicht nur meiner einer skeptisch, inwieweit die Oranjes mit ihrem neuen […] Naturally, this also signaled a change in musical style - though the music here is still pure death metal to the core, it feels much more mature and serious. The first twenty-five seconds of the album alone make it worth your money. A Gorefest egy holland death metal együttes volt. And then they progressively went down the drain, IMHO, so I was really looking forward to this one. Sure he uses the demonic vibe without any trouble, but our Dutch buddy focuses more on a twisted, bombastic tone rather the than the deep sound itself, and the result is nothing short of otherworldly. What we have here is the quintessential Gorefest death metal album. Can’t say much about it. Babylon’s Whores has got all tempi familiar to Gorefest and never gets dull. Colin Richardson's production and mix really made these guys stand out as both professional and proficient, as you can hear everyone really well--even Jan-Chris de Koeyer's thundering distorted bass gets a fair shake in the mix. Last song ‘The End Of It All’ takes some time to get into but has slowly become one of my favourites on the album as well. 6 talking about this. Die Niederländer von GOREFEST haben einiges erlebt. Category Archives: Gorefest GOREFEST – Infamous Existence . The biggest downfall of this full-length is the track ‘Murder Brigade’. The first note will have you hearing Gorefest the way they wanted you to hear them before some corporate jackass shoved a boat load of money in their faces and over produced them and ruined their sound. Gorerotted? ). Musically the band shows it can hang with equal parts melody and chaos, as Frank Haarthoorn and Boudewijn Bonebakker lay down riffs and solos that are very heavy and melodic, respectively. The music is well played and it´s obvious that especially Bonebakker puts his heart and soul into the guitar work. A lot of the Dutch death metal band criticized the death ‘n’ roll efforts of the reformed band but Rise To Ruin might just be the cohesive to stick the fans to the band again and restore faith. A lot of the Dutch death metal band criticized the death ‘n’ roll efforts of the reformed band but Rise To Ruin might just be the cohesive to stick the fans to the band again and restore faith. I discovered Gorefest way back in the day by buying their demo tapes. Gorefest is a band which has been somewhat lost in the sea of high-profile oldschool DM groups, but with music like this and that of the previous album, there's no reason for them to go so widely ignored. The opener, "Revolt", gives you a perfect example of what to expect from the rest of the album. I really dug this album when it came out and I remember it as one of the few death metal albums from the early 90s that was worth a damn. Really, though, this album is the sound of a genre taming itself for a wider appeal; vocals are harsh but not too hard (Max Cavalera would bark his way into the mainstream with a similar approach less than a year after False's release), riffs are toned-down mosh-fodder and hooks are much more prevalent than before. The guttural, demonic roar of the vocals is still intact, as is the deft and subtle drum performance, but the material as a whole is augmented by an experimental edge far ahead of its time. This track is simply filler, offering nothing new or interesting to the album, unlike all the other songs present. Bis April will man die Aufnahmen mit Tue Madsen im Kasten haben um anschließend im … I certainly hope so. Quite an achievement really. Soul Survivor is a death 'n' roll music album recording by GOREFEST released in 1996 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette. Real/full name: Артур Рябов / Artur Ryabov Age: 42 (born Nov 28th, 1977) Place of origin: Russia (Ivanovo, Ivanovo Oblast) Gender: Male A radical change from their earlier Cannibal Corpse-like gore nonsense era, and a change I enjoyed, as I prefer lyrics with some intelligence to them. So, I guess Gorefest's sole claim to originality is their groove metal flirtation is slightly ahead of the zeitgeist (after all, this does predate Machine Head's debut). There's not a lot to say other than False is run of the mill death metal. De Koeijer’s voice is not only forceful, but dangerously original, which is certainly something the typical untalented belcher lacks compared to Gorefest’s energetic singer. There are some good melodies in some of the songs, but the whole "death'n'roll" style these guys were playing is gone for good. Released 9 November 1992 on Nuclear Blast (catalog no. The overall sound of the guitars is a surprisingly contemporary mean of “False” and “Erase”. It all ends with a suiting ‘and so we rise to ruin’ This had a huge impact on the sound, technique and songwriting. death metal epic. ‘Get A Life’ is the song on which you can most clearly hear the Godflesh influences. The album is a showcase in thick heavy guitar riffing, frequently varied and decorated with melodies and scorching solos, although at times these solos can appear to be fairly brief and leaves you begging for more, such as on ‘Babylon’s Whores’. In light of the ongoing pandemic situation, the staff has decided to dedicate the site server's … From that point on the song slowly works to the end of the album in a hypnotising way. Well if you ask me, I'd respond with a resounding 'yes'. 2 Jahren GOREFEST auf einmal wieder zurück auf der Bildfläche des Metals waren, hatten sicherlich nicht viele damit gerechnet, dass die Band ausgerechnet solch einen Hassbolzen wie "La Muerte" raushaut. What further emphasises this groove metal aspect is Ed Warby's astute, skittering drumming; some of his patterns really remind me of the rock-disco-'classic', Burn My Eyes. "The Glorious Dead" and "Second Face" are good examples of their faster, more chaotic blasting approach, but they also unleash some killer slow tunes like the ultra-morbid "Reality-When You Die" (the ending riff benefits from squawking pinch harmonics that make it sound so much more evil!) Auflösung: 2009 - Mitglieder: (Letztes Line-up) * Jan Chris de Koeyer (voc, b) (Gründungsmitglied) * Frank Harthoorn (git) (Gründungsmitglied) * Boudewijn Vincent Bonebakker (git; seit 1991) * Ed Warby (dr; seit 1991) - Ehemalige Mitglieder: Death metal fans will probably miss a bit more bite, brutality and power while fans of hard rock and heavy metal will probably be turned off by the semi-growling vocals. Tracks like the aforementioned "Reality - When You Die" and "The Mass Insanity" are in my eyes, some of the best mid-paced death metal songs ever written...the band's ability to write catchy as fuck riffs while still holding to a relativly slow pace is rivalled only by the greats - Bolt Thrower, Obituary, Cianide, Runemagick, etc...the verse riff in "State of Mind", that little pre-chorus riff in "Get-A-Life", the crushing verse of "Infamous Existence"..some real earworms, right there. Some strangely atmospheric, almost Godflesh-influenced passages pop up from time to time with murky chord structures and strange dissonance, but don't let any of this scare you away: this is still fundamentally a death metal despite its (excellent) use of outside influences. Yes! Country of origin: Ukraine Location: Luhansk, Luhansk Oblast Status: Active Formed in: 1995 Genre: Brutal Death Metal, Grindcore Lyrical themes: Gore, Death I had been following the band since the release of their second demo ‘Horrors in a Retarded Mind’. Anyway I wouldn't recommend it, there’s better death out there. death metal; black metal; thrash metal The songs then continues in a very doomy Bolt Throwerish way and slowly builds up speed until reaching maximum at 3:57 minutes and ending the same way the song started.
